My Clinical Philosophy
The individual exists within interconnected systems, and therapy examines the whole ecosystem rather than treating the person as the problem.
I believe we are shaped not only by what happens within us, but also by the systems and environments we move through every day. The world around us and the messages we receive about who we are supposed to be can influence how safe, valued, and free we feel to be ourselves. Therapy can create space to recognize these influences without assuming that every struggle is something that needs to be “fixed” within you.
My role is to help you bring these pieces together so we can understand the whole picture of you, rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation.
WHAT WE’LL DO TOGETHER
Build greater self-awareness by exploring the thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and protective patterns that shape how you respond to stress and life experiences.
Identify your strengths & goals
We can identify what belongs to you, what you may have learned or carried from others, and what you are ready to release or redefine. The goal is not to become unaffected by the world around you. It is to move closer to your authentic self—with greater self-acceptance, clarity, peace, and the ability to experience more comfort and safety within your own body, even when the world around you feels uncertain.
Understand patterns, strengthen what serves you, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others.
Family systems can shape us in especially powerful ways. The roles we learned to play, expectations placed upon us, patterns passed through generations, and beliefs about strength, vulnerability, success, identity, and belonging can continue to influence how we experience ourselves as adults. At the same time, your internal world
Explore the environments and relationships surrounding you, identify what nourishes you and what depletes you.
Workplaces, friendships, relationships, communities, and other spaces where we spend our time can either support our well-being or contribute to stress, burnout, disconnection, and self-doubt. and consider where boundaries, change, acceptance, or greater support may be needed.
Common Questions About Trauma-Informed Therapy.
-
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes how past experiences, chronic stress, and overwhelming life events can affect your emotional well-being, relationships, sense of safety, and nervous system. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, this approach considers the experiences and environments that may have shaped how you respond to the world today.
-
Not at all. Trauma isn't limited to a single catastrophic event. Experiences such as emotional neglect, discrimination, identity-related stress, difficult family dynamics, medical experiences, or prolonged exposure to stressful environments can also leave lasting effects. You do not need to prove that your experiences were traumatic to deserve support.
-
No. You are not required to share anything unless you want to share. Trauma-informed therapy emphasizes collaboration, choice, and emotional safety. We can begin by developing coping strategies, strengthening your internal resources, and helping you feel more grounded in the present.
-
At Your Grounded Path Therapy, absolutely. Your experiences do not exist in isolation from your identities, relationships, communities, or larger social systems. Our work acknowledges how culture, race, gender identity, sexuality, marginalization, and lived experiences can influence emotional well-being. Therapy is a space where you should not have to minimize or explain away important parts of who you are.
-
There is no universal timeline for healing. The length of therapy depends on your individual needs, goals, circumstances, and the complexity of what you're working through. We will periodically revisit your progress and collaboratively adjust our approach as needed.
-
Sometimes, difficult experiences can stay with us long after they've passed, influencing how we feel, think, and respond to the world around us.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps you gently process distressing memories and experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional weight.
Through guided techniques, such as eye movements or alternating tapping, EMDR can help reduce emotional distress, shift negative beliefs, and support healing from trauma, anxiety, and other challenging life experiences.
You don't have to relive every painful detail or find the perfect words to begin healing. EMDR is a collaborative process, guided by your comfort, readiness, and individual needs, helping you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and emotional freedom.
